Friday Finds! (#2)

Yay, it's the weekend!! And to celebrate I have another Friday Finds! Without further delay, here are the books!!!

Elfin by Quinn Loftis

I have recently read part of the Grey Wolves series by this same author and have really enjoyed it. After waiting for what seemed like forever, Elfin finally became free!! Loftis is a fantastic author and I am looking forward to just devouring Elfin! Oh, and unlike the Grey Wolves series, there is only 3 books in the Elfin series so far, instead of almost 9!

*Update, I read and reviewed Elfin, you can check it out here!*

Book Description From Back Cover

Before tonight Cassie Tate’s biggest concerns were whether she could pass Algebra and how she was going to keep Elora, her best friend, from dressing her in a skimpy fairy costume for Halloween. Her feet were firmly planted in suburban reality and she had no reason to believe her life would be anything but that of a typical teenager. That is until tonight, when Cassie saw something that no human was ever supposed to see; in the blink of an eye she was thrown into the world of the Light and Dark Elves.

He comes from a realm where light and dark have fought for millennia. He is of a race known to humans only in myths and legends. The darkness that lives inside him is a part of both who and what he is and it makes him the most gifted spy and assassin in the history of his time. His life is not his own; he lives in the service of the Dark Elf King. He slays who he must, has mercy on no one, is relentless in his hunt, and never tires of seeing his prey fall. He is Triktapic, assassin, spy, most feared of the Dark Elves.

Now, in the midst of his King’s complicated plans to expand the Dark Elves’ holdings into the mortal realm, for the first time, Trik finds his loyalties divided. For no Elf, Dark or Light, can turn away from their Chosen.

Unbeknownst to the mortal realm, the battle between Light and Dark is being brought to their doorstep. The only one who can keep it at bay holds darkness in his heart like a lover, and the one who can sway that heart must decide if she can look beyond his black past, beyond his evil nature and see the man he is destined to be.

The questions must be asked, does love really cover a multitude of sins? Can true love actually conquer all or will his darkness consume those around him until all that stands is an assassin with the blood of the mortal realm on his hands?

Saving Angel by J. L. Weil

I have a feeling that this book is going to have just as much chemistry in it as Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series. Instead of Aliens though, the weird family living next door is actually half-demon. This sounds like a great start, and I love my demon books!!

*Update, I read and reviewed Saving Angel, check it out!*

Book Description From Back Cover

I wondered what my life would be like if we had never moved to the ho-dunk town of Spring Valley, Illinois. Sure the internet service was splotchy, there was nothing but miles of wheat fields, and I probably wouldn’t be faced with death at every corner.

My only neighbor in this god forsaken town was…well there really was only one to describe him, hot as hell. With his sinful dark looks, unusually silver eyes, and kissable lips, there was something about him that was more than meets the eye.

Of course I was determined to find out.

Chase Winters might be drool-worthy, but he was also insufferable, arrogant and…in short a d-bag. Our relationship was anything but love at first sight. Not even close. There was something weird about the family living next door.

What I hadn’t expected to find was an underworld of trouble.
Chase and his cousins Lexi and Travis are Divisa, half-demon, half-human. Getting them angry was hardly in my best interest, not if I wanted to live.

As it turned out, that might be the least of my problems. I’ve been tagged by hell.

Now every ugly, nasty being from hades was on my trail. I have suddenly became a magnet for demon disaster, and the only way I am getting out of this alive was by putting my life in the demon spawn’s hands.

One wrong decision and my butt was toast.

Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down (Forged Bloodlines Book 1) by Lisa Olsen

Forged Bloodlines: Book 1

I have actually read a sample of Wake Me When the Sun Goes Down, and have wanted to buy it right then and there. But, instead I added it to my Amazon wishlist and waited for the price to go down, and boy did it ever. Lisa Olsen's first book in the Forged Bloodlines Series is now free! I am currently in werewolf and alien mode, but when I get back into vampire mode, I'll be sure to pick this one up and review it!

Book Review: Opal (The Lux Series Book 3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Lux Series Book 3
Title: Opal
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Lux Book 3
Pages: 382
My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn't fooling around. Doubting him isn't something I'll do again, and now that we've made it through the rough patches, well... There's a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can't protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I'm no longer the same Katy. I'm different... And I'm not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I'm capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won't turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we're stronger...and they know it.

What if I told you that Daemon gets even better? You're probably thinking no way that's impossible. But, in Opal, Daemon does just that. He is full of surprises that make you wish you had your very own Daemon more and more.

In Opal, Katy learns even more about the secret organization that has interest in the Luxen and their healing abilities. She has to learn all she can and prepare herself for what is to come to truly protect those she cares about. Along the way, she, Daemon, and the other Luxen finds themselves working alongside an unlikely character. The stakes are high and everyone is on edge, but Katy is no longer the timid person she used to be.

Usually when I read a series, the first book automatically becomes my favorite, but while reading Opal, I discovered that when it comes to the Lux series, that is definitely not the case. The things that Katy has went through have left their mark and she is no longer the same person that she previously was. She now knows that she will do anything to keep her loved ones safe, which actually kind of frightens her. So, in addition to seeing this new fierce Katy, you also get to see a different side of Daemon. He still has his jerk moments, but he has this gentler side that only those he truly cares about gets to see. I loved how much depth this gave his character. There is so much more to him than just the protective jerk you have come to know and love. He has a huge heart that only a select few get to see.

The fact that Armentrout made a reference to Dean Winchester just solidified Opal as my favorite. When I saw that name in the book I had to put the book down, pick it back up, do a double take, and then proceed to just repeat "Oh my God!" over and over again. Until I get my hands on Origin (the next book in this awesome series) I can only wonder how Armentrout is even going to top this book!

"Daemon was beautiful but prickly, like a Christmas cactus."

"Andrew never liked me. I don't even think he liked people in general. Or puppies. Or bacon."
"I preferred ones with cute kittens and llamas. And Dean Winchester." (there was no way I was not putting the Dean Winchester sentence on here!)

"Thought she said to leave the door open."
"It is. It's cracked. That's Open."

Coming Soon...

Coming Soon.....Friday Finds!!!

I love getting books for free, I mean who doesn't? You can find a ton of great e-books for free, in just about any genre you like. I am always on Amazon scouring for new free books to get. I also found a great new site called Bookbub. You just put in some genres you like, and they find free or discounted e-books for you! So I decided to share some great free (or really cheap) e-books. Since I have an Amazon Kindle, most of the free books will probably be on Amazon, but if you do not have a Kindle, you can get a free app for your phone, tablet, or computer! I hope to post two or three great finds every Friday. So, be on the look out for the following picture that will accompany these Friday posts!!

Book Review: Onyx (Lux Series Book 2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Lux Series Book 2
Title: Onyx
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Lux Book 2
Pages: 366
My Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon's determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I've sworn him off, even though he's running more hot than cold these days. But we've got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I'm a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who's got a secret of his own. He knows what's happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I've seen someone who shouldn't be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he's never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them--from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

If all aliens were easy on the eyes, and strangely both arrogant and caring, then I really don't think that I would object to an invasion. In other words if there is a group of aliens that are exactly like Daemon, then I would say come on in!

In Obsidian, Daemon was mostly the jerk that we all loved, and we rarely (just like Katy) got to see the more caring/sweeter side of him. But now, Daemon and Katy have some alien connection that Katy thinks could explain certain feelings. Daemon does like a challenge though, and will just have to prove Katy wrong!

Then a new guy with surfer good looks comes to town, and Katy thinks he may just have the normalcy that she craves, much to the dismay of our favorite jerk alien. But, normal may be just what Katy needs, because the big bad DOD has come to town, and their black Expeditions are everywhere.

There is no way you can go wrong with such a great plot, and Armentrout certainly does not. She instead goes one step further and completely knocks it out of the park! In addition to the great book that is Onyx, I was surprisingly blessed with a bonus scene! It's not really an extra scene, but at the end of the book, one of my favorite parts was retold...in Daemon's view! That right there only made me love this book that much more!

"Dog-eared pages were Antichrist of book lovers everywhere."

"Are you cold? Where's your jacket?"
"I don't like jackets."
"Did they do something terrible and unforgivable to you, too?"

"You have anger management problems. It's like a disease."
"There's a cure and it's called kicking your ass."
